Audible:

We all think of the new year as a time to get motivated, but for me, Audible audiobooks are a year-round source of inspiration. Caroline Leaf’s “Switch on Your Brain” brilliantly breaks down how closely our health is linked to our emotions. And Patrick McKeown’s “Oxygen Advantage” actually teaches us how breathing can be the beginning of a stronger body. Find something that sparks a change in you with a free Audible trial.  Your first 3 listens are free at Audible dot com. That’s audible dot com.

I’m the kind of person who believes spiritual, mental, and physical well-being are all connected.  Audible audiobooks give me so much to explore, and be inspired by, in those areas.  Listening to John Lake’s “Divine Healing” speaks so clearly to my faith while “The Laws of Human Nature” by Robert Greene gave me invaluable tools to understand others as well as myself. Eggland’s Best:

Hey, I’m John Tesh……and every morning I start my day with eggs for breakfast. And the only eggs I eat are Eggland’s Best. Eggland’s Best taste better, are more delicious and have better nutrition.  Eggland’s Best have more Vitamin D, E and Omega 3’s. And eggs are one of nature’s most perfect foods! They’re one of best sources of choline, an essential nutrient that helps your brain store and recall information. Plus, the protein helps me feel more focused all day long. I also top my salads with a hard boiled egg from Eggland’s Best. It’s the best thing to eat with your greens. The fat in the egg helps you absorb NINE TIMES the amount of antioxidants from your greens, which protect the heart and shield us from cancer. There’s only one egg my family and I eat. Eggland’s Best, Better Taste, Better Nutrition, Better Eggs. Eggland’s Best.

Splenda:

If you’ve been diagnosed with diabetes, which “kitchen cure” will help lower your blood sugar? A) cinnamon; B) a sugar-free stevia sweetener, like Splenda; C) regular caffeinated coffee; or D) dark chocolate.

The answer is everything BUT C) – caffeinated coffee. Researchers at Duke University studied people with Type 2 diabetes – and discovered that caffeine makes blood sugar more difficult to control……And they recommend diabetics switch to decaf tea and coffee.

So, to help lower your blood sugar, sprinkle cinnamon on your breakfast cereal or in your decaf coffee……Cinnamon reduces sugar absorption  Substitute stevia for regular sugar……According to the Metabolism Journal, stevia lowers blood sugar in those with Type 2 diabetes....And eat 2 squares of dark chocolate every day - because dark chocolate improves insulin sensitivity.

This portion of The John Tesh Radio Show is brought to you by Splenda Naturals. Goodbye sugar, hello Splenda.

HEALTH:

Here’s one way to predict your heart health: Get down and give me 40! Because a new study finds that men who can do at least 40 push-ups in one minute are much less likely to suffer from heart disease within the next 10 years. That’s according to the Harvard School of Public. Their report is the first to show how push-up capacity is linked to heart disease. They found that middle-aged men who can do 40 push-ups in a single try have a 96% reduced risk of developing heart disease, or having related conditions, like heart failure, compared to men who can only do 10 push-ups. Even men who could do at least 11 push-ups in one minute had a lower risk of heart disease, but the more they could do, the greater the benefit. And the push-ups test was a more accurate predictor of heart health than a treadmill test - and you don't need any special equipment to do it.

FINANCES:

If you’re looking for a hot stock to buy, think about trailer parks! One of the biggest is called Sun Communities. They own trailer parks in over 141-THOUSAND sites across the US and Canada. And their stock price has risen over 4-thousand-percent in the last 10 years! That’s 8-times the return of the Standard and Poor 500 stock market index. So why are trailer park stocks such a good investment? Because more Baby Boomers are retiring to them. Demand for smaller, manufactured homes is spiking. “Manufactured homes” is the industry term for trailer parks. And Boomers are selling their homes and moving into trailer parks in nice communities for between $30 and $50-thousand dollars. In fact, Marketwatch calls trailer parks the new “gated communities.”

PSYCHOLOGY:

Go ahead and get excited about something! People will like you more. That’s according to clinical psychologist, Dr. Andrea Bonior. She says, when we show genuine enthusiasm, it’s endearing. It makes people think they’re getting to see the real you……And that makes people more comfortable around you, because they feel they understand you. So go ahead and get excited about something!

LIFESTYLE:

I have real estate savvy to share from the experts! I’ll tell you how to predict the value of a home simply based on the name of the street it’s on. So is a home Marshall Lane better than a home on Marshall Avenue? If you’re in the market to buy a place, you won’t want to miss this!

When it comes to real estate, street names can influence the price of a home. That’s according to the book “Zillow Talk: The New Rules Of Real Estate” by Zillow CEO Spencer Rascoff and economist Stan Humphries……

They analyzed years of real estate data and here’s what they found……

·      First: Streets with names are better than numbers, like Marshall Street versus 12th Street. In fact, a house on a named street can be up to 20% more valuable. That’s because, in almost every city, streets with names are developed first. So they’re older and tend to have more established, and valuable, properties. There are only 3 cities in the US where that isn’t true: New York City, Denver and Atlanta.

·      The second thing the Zillow guys learned: Lanes are better than Avenues. Because an Avenue or Road will typically have more homes on it than a Court or a Lane. And when there are fewer homes, prices go up. So homes on Wilson Lane will be more valuable than homes on Wilson Avenue.

·      The third thing the Zillow guys learned: Streets with less common names are better than streets with common names. So a home on Meadowview Street is more valuable than one on Main Street. And Main Street is the most common street name in the US. Also, homes on a street that gives an environmental description - like Lakeside, Meadowview, or Sunset - typically sell for 16% more.

·      So what about the street number? Well, as you can imagine, homes with 666 in the street number sell for a bargain. And homes with 316 in the number - like the Bible verse - are more valuable.

RELATIONSHIPS:

It’s not destiny that brings two people together……It may be proximity. I’ll explain why seeing someone on a regular basis can make them more attractive to you - and I’ll share other factors that influence love.

Tt’s not destiny that brings us together……There are a lot of other factors at play that make two people fall in love:

·      Like, our parents……Psychologist Dr. David Perrett from the University of St. Andrews found that our opposite sex parent essentially gets imprinted on our brain. And when we’re adults, and ready to find a mate of our own, we gravitate toward people who look like that parent - at the age we were born. So if you’re a woman, and your dad had brown hair and blue eyes, and he was 35 when you were born - that’s your ideal man. For example, in Dr. Perrett’s research, women born to parents over 30 weren’t as attracted to signs of youth in a man’s face. They preferred physical traits that made a man’s face seem more mature - like strong bone structure.

·      We also fall in love simply because someone is close to us - like they live across the street, or we work in the same building. It’s called the “exposure effect”……And in an experiment done by MIT, students were more likely to fall in love with other students who had dorm rooms close by - versus students who lived farther away on campus. That’s because, when we’re regularly exposed to someone, they become more familiar, and that increases attraction.

·      Guys, this one’s for you……Get a dog. In a study conducted by the University of Michigan, women were asked to rate the attractiveness of men based on a description. And whenever that description said a man owned a dog, the women rated the man much higher. That’s because dogs are a symbol of a nurturing, and playful personality. They also make people seem more approachable, friendly and happy.

HEALTH:

One of the best ways to relieve tension is to stretch! Think about it - the first thing we do when we’re stressed is clench up, right? Well, Jaime Longval is a certified strength and conditioning specialist at Brown University……and she says stretching is an effective strategy for stress relief. Because when you lengthen your muscles, you relieve tension. And the same stretching exercises that help relax your muscles will help relax your mind as well.

You can even use stretching to become happier!

Try this stretching routine when you get out of bed every morning.

Reach up to the sky, the bend down toward your toes for a few minutes - even if you can’t reach your toes all the way. According to the American Journal of Preventative Medicine, doing that simple stretching exercise three times a week can make you noticeably happier! That’s because it activates your parasympathetic nervous system, which reduces anxiety, lowers blood pressure and promotes contentment.

So, to reduce stress - and feel happier - make stretching part of your daily routine.

HEALTH:

If you’re lucky enough to reach age 80 and still have a brain that functions like a 50 year-old, experts call that being a Super Ager. So, why do only 10% of the population qualify as Super Agers? We’ll break down a new study that found the top lifestyle factors that give some people much healthier brains as they age.

If you’re lucky enough to reach age 80 and still have the brain function of a 50-year-old, then you’re officially a “Super Ager.” But only 1-in-10 people will ever meet that standard! So, what exactly are Super Agers doing that the rest of the population isn’t? Here are some clues from a new study in the journal The Lancet Healthy Longevity:

·      First: Super Agers are super active…… especially after mid-life. And it’s not just about time spent exercising……Super Agers tend to choose more physically demanding activities – including stair climbing, gardening, and chasing after the grandkids! And researchers say an active lifestyle is proven to increases blood flow to the brain, which helps build and maintain gray matter.

·      Super Agers also report lower levels of anxiety and depression. And multiple studies have shown that stress is a top risk factor for developing dementia…… Mainly because stress damages brain cells and SHRINKS the hippocampus, which is the area that governs learning and memory.

·      It also helps if you’re a social butterfly. Because our friends offer the ideal buffer for talking about our problems, and finding ways to relieve stress. But also because a strong social circle will always challenge us to try new things – which is what our brain craves!

So, if you’re regularly finding ways to exercise, relieve stress, and experience new things, you’re well on your way to becoming a Super Ager!

When I heard how many people are signing prenuptial agreements it surprised me!
But times have changed! Prenups aren’t for wealthy people trying to protect themselves from gold-diggers. More often than not, they’re used to protect spouses from DEBT! We’ll talk about prenups, next!

It used to be, if someone wanted a prenuptial agreement before marriage it meant:

A.  They were wealthy and trying to protect their assets.

Or B. They didn’t have much confidence in the relationship lasting.

But these days, half of adults surveyed for a Harris Poll said they're open to signing a prenup! The reason? Because people are getting married later in life. So they often have property, money, businesses or debt to consider before marrying.

And 1 in 5 married couples have signed a prenup. And for younger couples - that percentage goes WAY up! Nearly 40-percent of married or engaged people between the ages of eighteen and thirty-four have signed prenups! And the main reason is debt!

So, if you break up, you’re not saddled with any debt accumulated by your spouse prior to the marriage. And a prenup can also protect spouses from debt incurred DURING the marriage, if one spouse should pass away. Including medical debt, or the debt from a business.

And Millennials are so into prenups that two Millennial women started an online platform, HelloPrenup dot com, that charges a flat fee of $600-dollars. It’s projected to do 25 times more prenups this year than just two years ago!

And just by having a prenup, lawyers have found couples are sending a message to each other that they’retrying to protect each other from financial disaster in the event of divorce or death.
